The Orange County Health Care Agency reported 565 new cases of the coronavirus as of Sunday, Aug. 9, bringing the county’s cumulative total to 39,641 cases.
The agency noted that the California Reportable Disease Information Exchange has been experiencing issues with the application that receives test reports from laboratories and then sends them to CalREDIE. The state health department is trying to resolve the issue, which may have resulted in a lower number of daily COVID-19 positive cases received and tests reported recently. On Monday, the agency reported more than 17,000 tests that had been backlogged.
It is estimated that more than half of the reported cases, or 29,931 as of Sunday, are people who have recovered. The recovery count is based on the prior 28-day cumulative case count.
There were 6 new deaths reported in Orange County on Sunday, raising the death toll to 726.
Of the 726 deaths, 284 were skilled nursing facility residents, 38 were in assisted living facilities and one was listed as homeless.
According to the California Department of Health, there have been at least 4,710 new cases of COVID-19 in Orange County in the last 14 days.
The county reports 474,144 tests for the virus have been given since local tracking began in March. There were at least 14,665 tests given as of Sunday.
The county reported Sunday that 487 people with coronavirus were hospitalized, including 163 people in intensive care.
The state’s coronavirus-tracking dashboard shows Orange County had at least 43% of its ICU beds available on Sunday.
